I find that I at times I get too camera happy wanting to captures moments so they aren’t forgotten. Thanks to the invent of digital cameras and availability of them to the average person, I can be as snap happy as I want 🙂 Though non of these pictures are what one would deem “exciting” they are a little bits of insight into our ordinary yet full life.
Zebulun’s birthday was in February. He turned 8. As with his elder brothers before him Ron likes to pick such moments to make them monumental and bestow a certain amount of responsibility upon with a new tool known in manhood. This has proven to be effective in them feeling proud of whatever that responsibility might be at the time, thus causing them to prove all the harder they are worthy of such trust of their father. It is at this time that he will take extra care to teach them the correct way to handle and care for the gift given, the safety of themselves and just as importantly the safety of others while they use it.
This year he felt Zeb was ready for a carving knife. We picked one that seemed “safe” for his age. He has clear restrictions with using it, the first and foremost being he can only use it in the presence of an appointed adult.
Simeon of course wants to be like his big brother. Ron has always taught the boys to begin whittling/carve on a very soft bar of soap. Though Simmie is some time off from being able to have his first whittling knife, an appropriate butter knife, under proper supervision, works perfectly in the soft bar soap and lays a foundation for him for respecting such a tool
I came across this photo of Ron and R.J. this past week. I have a hard time with scanning photos into the computer so I took a photo of it and though it has it’s flaws I was still please with it for what it is.
I can never get enough plaid on this boy! He is so cute in it!
The oldest and the youngest.
Laundry Day. I had no desire to do the laundry mat and though despite good intentions Ron still has not finished my dasher washer so I had to resort to this method. Its really not that bad.
Our Friday night sunset.
A large part of the boys play time is in “make believe”. It usually follows after a good book is read. As you can see in these next two photos Robin-Hood has been the play of this past week. Zebulun has played like this for as long as he has been doing independent play. He has drawn his little brother into it as well. The two can play endlessly acting out such stories. For Zeb being dressed the part is as big a part of the play itself.
The love of my life though I tell him he NEEDS a shave 🙂 The woodsman in him has come out up here!
Happy Monday!
Lea
Of course love the photos of Zeb and Simeon, learning man skills. The bar of soap idea is wonderful and he still can create something. The photo of you and Ron is the best I’ve seen so far, you make a good team for the Lord!
Washing laundry the old fashioned way isn’t so bad, we did it for over a year before getting our wringer washer. We washed and soaked in our bath tub in the winter months and in the Summer and Autumn we had some old laundry sinks we used and we heated water over the camp fire. The wringing out was/ is hard on your hands though, so maybe look into getting a hand crank wringer, we found one online for less than $50 ( several years ago, so probably has increased some now)
As always thank you for sharing your family and life with us . Blessings for your week. :o)
Thank you Kelle! God bless!
Wonderful photos! One of the things I love best about being a wife and a mother of boys is seeing the little men wanting to emulate their Daddy especially in the area of tool use. Soap carving is wonderful and a favorite around here. Using my spoons and others items handmade by my husband is so special and I love to think of my boys doing similar things for their families some day. Thanks for sharing this glimpse into your day. Peace and Blessings!
Thank you Dawn! Homemade stuff is the best isn’t it! God bless you and your beautiful family!
I love the pictures 🙂
You and Ron are such a cute couple 🙂
I agree that Zeb looks so good in plaid 🙂
I thought it was so sweet to see Simeon coping Zeb with his butter knife and soap bar ❤ And seeing RJ letting Zeb help him was really sweet too , I can tell your older boys are great big brothers. You have raised them Well! 🙂
I hope you guys stay Well, God bless 🙂
