Though spring has shown itself as tidbits here and there in many parts of the country, its refusal to give us hope this far north greeted us this morning. This was the view we had when we opened the door to the cabin. We were welcomed by another 10 to 12 inches of fresh white snow.
Though one of the purposes in moving here was the snow and still is, I guess I’ve just been in a mood to see muddy brown earth and dead grass under the already multiple feet of snow that already existed on the ground prior to last nights storm. Maybe I’m missing bug season up here……..nah!!!! Though I remind myself at the height of summer and what I consider to be unbearable heat (I am not a warm weather individual) I was begging for winter to come even at the time knowing that we would not see definite signs of spring until mid April once it did come.
Sometimes also, I think I fall into the trap with everyone else complaining about the snow that I should too. But I won’t, because once the initial shock wears off the fresh snow I truly enjoy basking in the magnificent beauty given by it. It regenerates the soul. The smell and the feel is not touched by another things, and only rivaled in beauty by fall.
The snow was heavy and wet, as it is rather warm up here right now, about 32 degrees. Over the past 6 weeks we have had several breaks in the winter weather with lots of days warm enough where we have lost several feet of standing snow.
Our area snow totals so far is 213 inches at the measuring station about 10 minutes from us, we normally get a little less than that.
Notice the height of snow on the stumps, they reminded me of mushrooms all winter.
We have this to come this weekend, yes we are in the 6 to 12 inch area. See the little finger hook hanging in the Great Lake Superior? Yep, that is where we are. That is why we get so much snow and why it stays so long. That is one of many reasons why it is so beautiful up here.
First thought that came to my mind is that it would be fun to make a snow cave with all that snow! 🙂
I must admit I like the winter and snow better than the heat and storms.
In the winter you can always put on more clothes or build a fire if you are cold, in the summer there is only so much you can take off , and there is no point to swim when the pond water is as warm as a bath!
There is definitely beauty in the winter woodscape around you.
Stay warm! 🙂

The snow is beautiful. Where I live in Pennsylvania we can average 180 inches of snow for a season. There is just something cozy about a fresh cover of snow, isn’t there?
Absolutely!
That is a beautiful sight for these Oklahoma eyes. I giggled at the thought of all that snow. My kiddos wouldn’t know what to do. They had tons of fun yesterday. It was the first time in 2 years that they could get out their disc sleds. We had a 1/4″ of frozen sleet to slide on. Bloom where you’re planted!
That is great! Good for them! I know folks who live where it snows ft and ft but don’t even step in it. 1/4 inch of sleet and memories made, doesn’t get any better then that!
