More Confessions…..But Not Just Yet…..

Old Time Family Life / Saturday, March 10th, 2018

I have been working on a third installment of “Confessions: How the present effects the past” and to be quite honest, I am having an incredibility hard time writing that particular post maybe because since I wrote Part 2 I have a lot to confess. Putting all into words on a blank page is extremely difficult for some reason. So I thought maybe if I were to find some appropriate pictures to encourage the post that would be just the ticket and I would be inspired to write the post.  All that I managed to accomplish while searching my photo files was spending a large portion of last night and the better part of a day reminiscing over old photos and memories.

Photos to me are much more telling then a video.  First of all they do not reveal everything about the event. Your mind is left to fill in blanks of what was going on in the surroundings, what was person photoed thinking, what were they hearing. Your eyes search the photo for details.  They caused you mentally to be more engaged than any film or video could cause.  Photos are timeless.  Photos are precious and photos can be great fun.

Whilst I traveled down memory lane last night I came across this file.  We took these photos just about 4 years ago and I was of course, taken aback by how much everyone had changed.  We had a lot of fun doing this particular set. I hope you enjoy the story in each set.

RAINY DAY

“I really wanted to play outside today but now it is raining…”

“Maybe I will go outside and play anyway……”

“Looks like rain, do you think it will rain?”

“Yep, I think it will rain…”

“HAHAHAHAHA”

I can’t believe how small Simmie!

“WALKING TO MEMPHIS”

R.J. has always loved his guitar.  He is such a good-natured gentleman that he humored me and let me take these photos.

AND THEN THERE IS JOSIAH

His is one of the most talented young men with writing words I know and he has a great sense of humor to boot……..

However if asked he will tell you he was born in the wrong century, he prefers his laptop from over a century ago.

Whenever I look at these next two pictures I see Richard Thomas as John Boy Walton on the old TV series “The Waltons”.

  1. What wonderful photos! We’re in the process of moving and, inevitably, one ends up looking at old photos and things at these times. Quite a rabbit-hole experience and a very emotional one, too.
I grew up not far from the real Walton’s Mountain and love Earl Hamner’s stories. I can see the likeness in Josiah, too. Thank you for all your posts!

    1. Thanks Dawn and congrats on your move! Moving is so exciting! Praying a wonderful adventure awaits you and your family in your new place!

  2. Thank you for sharing such personal parts of your lives. Love the photos and RJ looks like a natural with his guitar and that voice as well. What type of music does he enjoy playing most? Mike, is teaching himself to play the banjo, he enjoys bluegrass gospel. Josiah does look like John “Boy” Walton in the last two photos. Love his typewriter, what a nostalgic piece and how wonderful that it’s still being used. I love looking back at photos, brings back, as you said the memory, including the sights, sounds and smells.

Have a wonderful Sunday! God is good

    1. Both the older boys enjoy a large range of music. We were always cautious of the music they listen to growing up,never modern secular music, mostly gospel via choir, country, celtic, mountain/bluegrass and 80’s and 90’s Christian pop. We did expose them to Christmas music that had the oldies like Bing, Dean Martin, Sinatra, Elvis and they followed that to an extent outside of Christmas music. We also listened to a lot of old time radio programs so they were exposed to the big band and the like Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Dorthy Shay etc…All of these styles RJ really enjoys. You also have to throw Johnny Cash in there lol. The thing he says he likes about Cash and others similar is they sing a story. With all that said the genre he likes to play on his guitar is mostly country though. 🙂

  3. I love looking at photographs, and agree with you that the stories they tell are far superior to videos! I love these pictures that you shared, they tell a lovely story.
RJ looks like he could be a famous country music star in those pictures, you are a great photographer!
I haven’t watched much of the Waltons, but from what I can remember, Josiah does bear a resemblance to John Boy 🙂
I was wondering if someday you could do a blog post or video on what kinds of books you guys have/read? 🙂

    Blessings!

    1. Thank you for the complement on my photos. Thanks to the world of digital cameras I can have fun and not worry about all the photos that don’t turn out 🙂
The books would be a fun blog or vlog to do. However I think it may just reinforce how boring we are when you see what we read LOL!

  4. LOL! I seriously doubt that, as I don’t find you guys boring at all, but actually find you quite fascinating and inspiring! 🙂
I find it is always very interesting to see what others read, and often times I find some of my favorite books that way! 🙂
LOL! I will admit that my bookshelf is crying to be put out of it’s misery, or at least begging that I buy another shelf so it would no longer be so over loaded 😀
But a book on a shelf is worth two on a phone! LOL!
